Well, another crazy trip, this time an overnighter to Las Vegas. I met up with some
other BNL concert goers who were coming in from Los Angeles. Our plan was to see the BNL
show, party and gamble all night, and then head back home in the AM. What a great time. As
always, the BNL show was outstanding. The set list was pretty
similar to the other shows I've seen this year, but the banter was running with Las Vegas
references. Ed commented on the large billboards for Lance Burton, master magician, and
how he could actually set cards on fire, even though they had a wax covering. He also had
some fun comments about the Luxor (you can't see the light on the Luxor from the moon),
and the new casino New York, New York. Steve hilariously remarked that even though the
Hard Rock did not have any BNL paraphernalia in its showcases, there was a guitar from
Veruca Salt proudly displayed. Also, Ed was intrigued with the size of Prince's (artist
formerly known as....whatever) costume that was on display, and how tiny it was.
Aside from the live sex show from the people in the row in front of us and the girl
next to me that couldn't stop calling "Eddie" throughout the show, the crowd was
a really good one. Everyone seemed into the show, and the venue seemed full, even though
by mid-afternoon, it was only 2/3 sold. I guess the words "Barenaked Ladies" on
a billboard in Vegas can really draw a crowd. A pleasant minimum of Kraft Dinner was
sprinkled, which is definitely a good thing.
BNL ended the regular portion of the show with the usual Barenaked Rap, but this time
added the Spice Girls, Wannabe, to replace the Christmas tunes that had been doing during
the holidays. The show was fun and full of energy. As always, I had a great time with old
and new Barenaked friends (Hi to Jenn, Carolyn, Shari, Mike, and Mina). I'm really looking
forward to the TX dates this week.
The Odds opened for BNL again on this leg of the tour. The more I hear of them, the
more I really like them. In addition to their single, "Someone Who is Cool",
other notable songs were played from the CD, Nest, like "Nothing
Beautiful" and "Make You Mad". The Odds have a very unique, yet simple
sound which has heavy lead guitars, but interesting, clever, insightful lyrics.
On That Note, I'm outta here......
